O. Nelson Jones served as president of Madison Coal & Supply Company, a subsidiary of Amherst Madison, and played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s modern trajectory. Appointed to the presidency at just 24 years old during a particularly challenging period for the company, he guided the business through substantial growth and revitalization. Jones, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 52 after a long battle with cancer, was known for his lifelong passion for the river and for towboats—a devotion that influenced both his leadership and his legacy.
